Mount Pilatus Master Plan

The New Face of the Mountain Destination

The world’s steepest cogwheel train is a technical sensation, the ride an impressive experience. Lucerne's local mountain is a magnet for both tourists and locals. Our master plan included the optimization of the offers and structuring the mountain attractions as well as the public flows.

Leading the Mountain Destination Into the Future

Cleaning up, ventilating and taking a visionary look into the future - that was our mission for the master plan. Starting with a comprehensive status analysis, we created the conditions to refine and optimize the existing facilities. We assigned a clear positioning to each location on the mountain. We defined measures for ten attraction points. Most of the outlined ideas have been implemented and have taken the mountain to a higher level of quality. The panoramic gallery is particularly impressive. It provides the best views in all weather conditions, allows a rain-proof connection of the attractions and offers new space for events of all kinds. At the time, we also had the idea of constructing gondolas with grandstands inside, so that all passengers could have the experience of «floating in the air». On April 1, 2015, Pilatus-Bahnen inaugurated the "Dragon Ride" - the new cablecars from Fräkmüntegg to Pilatus Kulm. The ride is the real-life counterpart to our idea of a cockpit-like structure that conveys the feeling of flying. Our master plan has remained the basis for further development of the mountain destination and it is always a nice feeling to spend a night at the historic summit hotel knowing that we were able to contribute significantly to the preservation of this precious gem.
