At the Swiss Museum of Transport, visitors literally have Switzerland at their feet. First, from the spanning footbridge, they enjoy the view of the panoramic image out of a cloudless sky. Then the search for details begins directly on the map. In this way, Switzerland can be re-discovered from the equivalent of 74,000 meters above sea level. A visitor can search for one's own home, a certain vacation spot or special places of longing. In addition, there are exciting size comparisons as well as in-depth information on cartography and Swiss transportation history. The gigantic national map required just as much preparatory work: the walk-on aerial photograph consists of 7,000 high-resolution photos taken from a flight altitude of 3,000 meters, retouched to the same time of day and season, and assembled into an incredibly precise view of Switzerland. The exhibition opened in 2002 and was originally planned to last four years. But it has remained open for viewing to this day.
