Scientific Topics, Touching Life Stories

Every second day, someone in Switzerland suffers spinal paralysis. How should we, as non-affected persons, communicate this difficult topic and sensitize people to the needs of paraplegics without «othering»? With the staged flat-sharing community we dared an artifice to enable encounters at eye level. Equipped with an audio guide, visitors move freely through the exhibition. The scientific topics are cleverly embedded in the touching life stories. At separate stations, specifically interested visitors can study the effects of different types of paraplegia in detail or learn more about the latest therapies. Guests see, hear and feel the challenges that the four affected people have to master day in day out. The openness and transparency with which they communicate, even about intimate matters, are valuable and remarkable. Accessibility and participation in social life are the residents’ central concerns.
